AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Weather Observations

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Rolling clouds above school buildings

Sunday Scribblings prompt #124 ~ Observations
~

The weather is always a reliable topic to chat about ~
There is always something happening ~
But lately
There seems to be something happening
Just a little too often
~
It is winter in Australia ~
Over night
Temperatures can get below zero ~
That is normal
A maximum temperature
During the day
Hovers around 12 degrees celsius ~
That is normal
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ A brief glimpse of sunlight between rain showers
~
But rain
Rain and more rain
Hurls itself from
Strangely moody clouds
~
Rain has been a daily event for
A week now!
I don't remember seeing
So much sky water
Since I was a child!
~
And the oddness doesn't end there
~
Take yesterday~
My 50 minute drive home from school
At 5pm involved
Driving through
High blustery wind to
Ice laden rain
To blue sky
Filled with sunlight to
Sunshower to
Strong winds to
Bolt of rain
(Wipers on full ~
But after just a few swipes
A lovely squeaky sound emanates because
The rain now is almost
Non existant!)
~
Repeat this cycle at least 4 times!
~
But wait!
There is more!
~
Keep in mind this is winter time!
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Winter buds
~
We do enjoy some winter flowers
But other flowers are
Flowering in profusion!
Streets are lined with wattle golds
Early!
Very early!
And even those personalities who
Shed their leaves for
A deep winter sleep
Are already budding!
~
Spring is a month away!
Why!
Why!
~

Pic by Gemma Wiseman ~ Wattle golds ~ This pic was taken over a month ago at Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula
~
NOTES ~ These weather observations mainly relate to the south east regions ~ Mornington Peninsula ~ of Australia! I believe Sydney is similar, but takes the prize for the greatest number of thunderstorms in one week!
