AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

It's Not Snow!

I saw a very strange event this week!
This photo was taken on one of our many wet summer days.
The white spheres are not snow nor fallen blossoms.
They are hail!
And right after the hail appeared the sun - briefly!
A very odd photo opportunity for shadows!

Mystery of hail
A fleeting icy moment
Till sun melts its soul

And this is how it was just before the sun appeared!

Hail

Pic by Gemma wiseman ~ Through July and August, the Mornington Peninsula experienced a number of hail storms.
Here is hail on my back verandah in the Dromana Hills.
