A River of Stones #13 ~ Concrete Miracle

Pic by Gemma Wiseman - from TV coverage of the Queensland floods.
At first, it looks like a rather ordinary image.
But this is a 300 tonne concrete floating pier that is usually attached to the river bank of Brisbane River.
Here, it has broken loose and is floating down the river.
Harbourmaster Captain Richard Johnson said this unnamed man steered a tug, nudging the pier from smashing into bridge pylons and moored boats.
(He said the man's name would be announced later.)
An incredible feat!

Very Strange Summer Skies

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ Strange summer skies in the last two days here in the Dromana Hills, Mornington Peninsula
After just a couple of sunny summer days, we are back to endless rain.
The misty worlds look like winter worlds.
But I am so grateful that all we have is rain and not flash flooding as in Queensland in northern Australia.

Queensland Floods On My Mind

Pics by Gemma Wiseman ~ from TV coverage of the devastating floods ravaging Queensland, Australia.
75% of the state has been declared a major disaster zone.
I may feel far away in Melbourne, Victoria, but my fellow Australians began their New Year with tragedy that threatened their homes...and it's not over yet!
This Watery Wednesday had to be a tribute to their strength!

A River of Stones #11 ~ Queensland Floods

Collage by Gemma Wiseman ~ Photos taken from TV reports on Queensland's flood crisis - today on Channel 7 and Channel 9, Melbourne.
A super rain storm has been identified as the cause.
This is a 1 in 100 year event.
The wall of water tumbling through Toowoomba and Grantham has been likened to an inland tsunami.
