AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes

AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

there's more to a brick...

Little house at Moorabbin, an inner suburb of Melbourne.
The street side brick fence line is an unusual style.
But more unusual is how the fence continues down the driveway and becomes a garden border.
The neighbour's wrought iron fence makes a wonderful contrast.

Understated Fence?

Lovely old house - Californian bungalow - at Moorabbin, an inner suburb of Melbourne.
Somehow I feel that the fence line style doesn't really complement the house.
Maybe they wanted an understated fence line so that attention is drawn to the house and garden?

NOTE
Re: the curled feature on the roofline.
Many early 20th century homes have this.
Some say it's called a pinnancle and is a stylised version of a gargoyle to ward off evil.
More responses suggest that it is a feature of Japanese architecture advertised in the World Trade Fairs and "borrowed" for other architecture.
