Market Day

Once a week recently, this sign appears outside our local IGA supermarket.
It does not mean that there are market stalls.
Rather, it refers to special prices available on a wide range of basic items!

This day means heaven

Beyond the mangroves...

Mangroves are in the foreground.
Beyond the mangroves is a gracious white yacht.
Beyond the yacht are the not so gracious white shapes of industrial plants at Long Island Point.
Large oil tankers dock there.
It is the home of Esso and Bluescope Steel.
This is the view of Westernport Bay at Hastings.

One of many attractions at the Western Port Festival 2013 last Saturday.
Amusements like this were on the foreshore of the bay at Hastings.

Music in Black and White

My teacher friend Ree Liddell (samples of her music are on her new blog)
sings and plays with the local Mornington Peninsula group MoJo Pearls.
Here she is playing at the Heritage Tavern, Balnarring last Friday night.

Mangrove Worlds

Mangroves at Hastings on Westernport Bay - the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula.
Australia has the third largest area of mangroves in the world after Indonesia and Brazil, totalling around 11,500 km2 representing approximately 6.4% of the world’s total mangrove area.

Red Earths

Red earths/sands are a feature of Cranbourne Botanical Gardens to symbolise the outback, central Australia areas!
The garden specialises in native plants.
This particular area is referred to as the Red Sand Garden, a design feature of the Australian Garden opened in 2006.

At the end of the aisle...

Peeking down an aisle in a Rosebud Woolworths supermarket and noticed this line up of yellows!
The yellow boxes were actually at the end of the aisle and the mango display was just beyond.
But my perspective created a combination of the two.

Unknown Flower

I have no idea what this flower may be.
It grows on a small tree and lasts for just a few days.
Perhaps wild, changeable weather may have contributed to its short life.

Soft furling petals
Gently brushed with creamy tones
Fringed with wavy browns

UPDATE
I have been told that this is a hybrid magnolia.
Our school gardener said that this is the first time he has seen it flower in 5 years!

Icecream Sign

A very popular place in the summer time or the autumn or the spring
and even, on long weekends, in the winter.
This shop is in Dromana, on the main street, facing the beach.
Icecream styles from the cold northern worlds of Scandinavia have made their mark in the warm southern worlds of Australia!
It's good to see features of other cultures on parade!

A window of the Mornington Museum (Old Post Office) in Main Street, Mornington.
I found it scenic because the reflection of the skies at the time seems to enhance the ambience of the post office poster featured in the window.
And then there is the overlay of the second poster announcing a Heritage Walk - part of the Australia Day celebrations last Saturday.
