AUSTRALIA ~ The Antipodes
I love a sunburnt country / A land of sweeping plains / Of ragged mountain ranges / Of droughts and flooding rains / I love her far horizons / I love her jewel-sea / Her beauty and her terror / The wide brown land for me / ~ Dorothea Mackellar (1885-1968)

Old Treasury Building

The Old Treasury Building in Melbourne, completed in 1862,  was once the treasury department of the Victorian government.
Now it's a museum of Melbourne history.

Quite a Colonial symbol! Very fine detail though, and a good photo.

Beautiful!

I find this symbol intriguing: why a unicorn and a lion? What does the Latin mean? How did these fantastic animals come to be associated with the British empire?...
Good shot, and thanks for coming by!

Hm,same sign that HMS Prince from 1678 had in the stern. Nice picture.

A lot of thought went into the symbol and it makes for a great monochrome!

Beautiful shades of gray in this photo. It makes a great subject for black and white.

(Dimple and Artlover - It's the coat of arms of the UK. The lion is England, the chained unicorn is Scotland. The inscription below them translates to "God and my right".)
