This photo of the sulphur-crested cockatoo was taken 3 years ago.
In those early days, their numbers were small.
But when up to 50-60 cockatoos chose to be fed here
- and they began destroying any wood around -
my husband was finally persuaded to stop feeding them.
I must admit, I miss taking their photo.
The pain of waiting
Waiting to be fed some seed
Waiting attention

oh, i bet they were destructive! and noisy as can be! :)
what an incredible bird....I feel 'pain' when people think they need such a creature, then keep it in a cage, because they can be so destructive....
Such a sad story/haiku. Pain for sure.
Thank you for sharing the history.

this is a great shot of a really beautiful bird!
What a beautiful bird. It looks so soft. I imagine they can be a bit destructive, especially when there are several of them together.
I can understand why you'd want to stop feeding them if they were destroying property. But, what a glorious bird and wonderful photo capture.
Thanks for linking up at the Bird D'Pot this weekend. Have a great week ahead.
Wait n its pain... i understand!!
Heavy breath near cold fireplace
They are beautiful birds, it is sad they are so destructive. I would love to see them in the wild. Great shot!
Such a beautiful bird!
That is an amazing bird we can only see in captivity up here. Beautiful he is, although like most creatures of the wild, they get very comfortable with free food so become a bit of a problem. Still, a majestic avian!
Beautiful!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
What a great shot! It's a beautiful bird.
I always, and today is no exception, look forward to your Haiku and the corresponding stories/information.
Really really really enjoyed!
Nothing can be more painful than waiting. You have perfectly captured that feeling.
oh, it's so sad that they are destructive. kinda goes with the old adage, "Beauty is as beauty does." Nonetheless I love his looks.
Lovely photo ~ I hate that pain of waiting, good one ~
It seems that all creatures must be intimately acquainted with the pain of waiting. Ouch!
